Summer is here and one thing we always keep in our minds is to stay hydrated.
Most of the time in summer we prefer to stay indoors. And also we feel summers are the best time to plan vacations and picnics with our family.
When we go out in summers our energy gets drained out easily. So maximum time we prefer to stay indoors. But sometimes we have to go out to get our works done.
Here are few tips to stay hydrated in summers or hot weather.
Water
Whenever we talk about hydration we talk about water.
Always have plenty of water. Track your water consumption everyday. Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go.
If you are bored with drinking plain water add flavours to it like adding cucumber, tulsi, mint , lemon,oranges etc will not only add flavour to the water but they also help in detoxing your body.
If you are interested in herbal teas have teas like blue tea , chamomile tea, hibiscus tea etc. keep them near your work area so you can have them whenever you want to.
Avoid having tea coffee alcohol or carbonated drinks they will dehydrate you instead of helping you stay hydrated.
Instead have coconut water or even sugarcane juice is also better.
Try to prefer homemade juices of are into having juices in the summers instead of buying outside to avoid artificial flavours and all.
Have more water when you do more physical activities that may be workout or working in you garden.
Eat foods with more water content
Watermelons, apples, citrus fruits, cucumbers, etc have more water content so that way they help you keep your body cool . Have easily digestible food when going out.
Wear breathable clothes
Wear light coloured clothes and clothes which are not tight. Wear airy clothes.
Avoid wearing synthetic clothes. Wear cotton fabrics which absorb your sweat properly.
Avoid wearing dark or black coloured clothes which absorbs heat easily.
Wear minimal accessories as few metals like nickel irritate the skin. Few have allergic reactions to these kind of metals and in hot weather with sweating and all , the irritation gets intense.
Try to stay indoors
Try to stay indoors in mid of the day. Go out only if it is necessary or emergency. Do your works in the mornings or evenings.
Keep your surroundings cool .
Don't avoid signs of dehydration
Signs like dry mouth tongue , excessive perspiration, extreme thirst, burning urine , dark yellow strong smelling pee, dizziness, lightheadedness, sunken eyes , exhausted feeling etc are few symptoms of dehydration.
Keep ORS packets handy in case of dehydration.
Try compensating the water loss by having water and ORS water. If ORS is not available mix a spoon of salt and sugar into a glass water to make electrolyte water and give it to the victim.
In case the situation is worse consult a doctor and go for saline.
