As humans it's quite common to have emotions and we also have liberty of experiencing and expressing them.
It's common to have any emotion. But the problem is having too much of them. Too much of anything is not good for our body.
So stress, anxiety are negative emotions, it's okay to have them as we are humans. But overwhelming with these kind of emotions will disturb our harmony both mentally and physically. They will numb our thinking capability. They will make us more sensitive to the simple stimuli in your day to day life.
Taking stress is fine ,but there is a limit to it. Taking stress for every other thing which are not under your control becomes overwhelming for you. You think about it every single day about it and you will stop showing progress in your present work. You will lose your problem solving capacity. And also as it is bad to have these kind emotions, you should also not suppress i.e., keeping it within yourself and not expressing it will make your condition worse that may lead to depression, anxiety issues, panic attacks etc.
Management of stress can be done in many ways. Depending on the individual it can be done. One thing doesn't work for all. If one thing works for me doesn't mean it will also works for you. You need to try different methods to make it work for you. So here are few ways to reduce or manage stress.
First thing first
Think about What's bothering you. And analyse it whether the problem/situation is in your control. If it's in your control, figure out a way to solve. If in case you don't know how to do it , ask for help from the person from whom you will get best suggestions.
If the situation/ problem not in your control then take a break and relax. Yes it is the most difficult part. Most of the times we take stress in situations where we are helpless this is where we get stuck and anxiously wait for what happens next. How we react or respond to these kind of situations is most important. This is where we need to show our inner strength.
Inner strength doesn't mean you have to stay strong no matter what and always potray yourself as strong , independent and doesn't show your weakness to the world.
Inner strength is something even if you fall and get stressed out , you take your time and process what happened in your life and getting back stronger is the healthy way to handle the situation.
If you are in a stressful situation but you don't know how to express it and you hide it within yourselves , appearing normal outside like you don't care what happens but inside you get more anxious and not letting your feelings out will make you even worse.
Leading a life without stress is impossible but you can manage it and potentially decrease its effect you.
Meditation
Whenever we talk about stress everyone tells us about meditation yes ofcourse it works like magic but instead of doing it once in a while, practice it everyday atleast for 5 minutes initially and you can increase the time gradually. Meditation will not just clear up the thoughts meditation also helps you in getting clarity in everything.
Breathing exercises
Apart from meditation these breathing exercises will also do the same thing as meditation does to your body. By breathing out you release your stress from your body. By practicing this exercise everyday for few minutes will help you calm you from inside.
Everytime when you feel stressed take three to ten deep breaths to instantly feel better.
You can take one deep breath Three to four times a day when you are alone.
Physical movement
Any physical movement like gym, exercise, yoga,a walk or few streches will do the magic for you. By doing them you are involving physically and mentally in them. They not only relax your body but also your mind. You will feel some part of your weight is taken away. Physical activity will also clear your thoughts and make your thinking clear. Personally i love walking and it relaxes me instantly.
Watch a series or movie
Watching a movie or series will divert your mind for the time being and makes your mind refreshing. Personally I love romcoms to watch as I find them more entertaining and relaxing than thrillers and horror movies. It completely depends on you what you choose to have a good time. Movies work like a magic sometimes.
Hobbies
You can involve in anything like cooking, painting, calligraphy, pottery, dancing, singing, board games etc which you enjoy will give relaxation and calm your mind. By practicing these will also improve your concentration and productivity. They also keep you away from screens and give you the serenity you want in that moment. They make you get involved in them completely making you feel light and relaxed. Activities like this will also improve your observation skills.
Talk to anyone
Share your thoughts and feelings with your loved and trusted ones. This will make you feel light instantly. Sometimes you just need a person to listen and say it's okay everything will be okay. You just want to vent out everything that has been in your heart for many days. May be everyone might not like sharing even with their loved ones but may be there are chances you might like it. Initially i never used to like sharing my thoughts with anyone but later on i started sharing with my mom and friends , instantly i felt relieved and the comforting words of them make me feel even better.
Connecting with people is important, one should have healthy connections in their personal life and professional life.
Become lazy and Sleep
This is my favourite thing to do when I'm stressed. When I'm in stress i don't feel like doing anything and I don't do anything. I cry when I'm overwhelmed with stress. I cry until i fall asleep.
I read a book of my interest or watch a movie and i sleep. This is the best thing that i can do for myself. When i wake up, i wake up with full energy and start my new day as it is without worrying about anything. I take my time to recover.
Go out
Going out for a walk or a ride will definitely do the magic for you. I do this often. I go for a walk alone or for a ride and i will go out to have some snacks in the night or in the evening, this works for me atleast. I feel refreshed and i can focus on the further work without wasting my time on anything.
Connect with nature
Connecting with nature is not just watering plants it is also spending time in the nature like a walk or something. I feel this is the most impactful thing to consider for stress. The place you live will have a great impact on your mental health atleast this is what I observed. The people who live in nature like countryside, people who live near beaches or coastal areas, people who live in cities or towns where there is more greenary will have less stressful life than people who live in urban metropolitan cities. The climate is also will impact on persons mood and behaviour. When you are in a place with trees around you and the sun is about to set the hues in the sky and the breezy wind will definitely impact your mood even though when you are stressed so the place you live is also important.
Keep everything organised
Old thing to say but never outdated. Clean surroundings equals to clean mind. This is what we are told. Yeah it is true. Try to just clean your study table today you will feel happy and next you will level up for your bed and cupboards unknowingly. Once you start getting habituated for organised room you will do everything by default to keep your surroundings clean. This will help you in clearing clutter in your mind too.
Journaling
Ofcourse not everyone will not have the habit of journaling. But when you try it ,you will definitely feel the difference. Just try by writing what you feel and how you are feeling in the moment. When writing your feelings down you are letting your feelings out of your mind, so you will definitely feel relieved and you will feel at peace.
