What are plant points?
Plant points are something you give to yourself based on the food eat. This is simply explained as number of plant based foods you eat in a day or a week.
For this you have to include different types of food that may be grains, vegetables, fruits, nut and seeds.
Milk ,milk products,eggs and any kind meat are not considered in this .
Purely plant based foods gets the points.
How you get points?
If you eat an apple you get one point. You had quinoa and broccoli for lunch you get two plant points. It is as simple as that. It is nothing but eating different types of plant based foods.

How many plant points you should achieve in a day or a week?
In a day one should aim for 5 plant points initially and later on you can easily increase it to 10 plant points per day.
In a week you should achieve 30 plant points are recommended for an average individual.
Reaching this is not hard. Actually it can be achieved easily with proper meal plan.
Why plant points are important in your diet?
Plant points are important because when you eat diverse food, your gut microbiome also increases. Diversity in food leads to diversity in good gut bacteria. This leads to easy digestion of different foods. The bad gut bacteria gradually decreases in your gut. This makes your gut much healthier than before.
You will also not crave for junk or processed foods.
Simple changes to make in your diet to reach your plant points
Plan your meals a week ahead or day before to avoid brain storming at the moment and ending up with something not so nutritious.
Indian food is made with variety of ingredients in it so for breakfast having millet dosa or idli will easily give you 3-4 plant points.
For lunch or dinner you eat some kind grain like rice quinoa,wheat or even millets. You will eat them with atleast 2 types of vegetables there you get 2-3 points per meal. You have fruits nuts or seeds for extra nutrition. This way you don't need to worry about plant points in your diet.
Try to add atleast one type of grain in your every meal.
Eating 4-5 types of nuts and seeds will easily give you extra plant points.
Eating atleast 2 types of fruits can give you extra plant points.
Having salads or mixed veg curry definitely gives more fiber.
May be you are a non vegetarian but plant based food is more important and one should never skip adding vegetables and fruits to their diet.
