There is a misconception that homoeopathic medicines are only prepared from plants. Homoeopathic medicines are diverse , they are prepared from different substances.

Synthetic
In plants whole plant is used for preparing medicine. It depends on the plant what part of the plnant is used. Sometimes only specific part of the plant is used like leaves stems fruits etc. in some some whole plant is used. For few plant parts dried before using. In some juice is extracted from the plants.
Animals
In animals different parts of the animals is used as medicine for example venom of snakes, shells of oyesters, milk of mammals and so on...
Minerals
Most of the elements in periodic table are medicines in homoeopathy. Like carbon, platinum, calcium, sulphur so on. And also many chemicals like sulphuric acid, picric acid, benzoic acid etc both organic and inorganic acids are sources of homoeopathic medicines.
Nosodes
These are the medicines prepared from diseased tissues of the organism. For instance lyssin the saliva of the rabid dog, carcinosin cancer tissue so on.
Sarcodes
The medicines prepared for the healthy tissues of the organism. Adrenalinum, thyroidinum, insulin, oophorinum etc
Imponderabelia
These are medicines prepared from energy sources that may be natural or some reactions like medicines are prepared from moon rays, magnets, x ray etc
Synthetic
These medicines are prepared from man made sources like paracetamol, streptomycin etc.
These are the sources of homeopathic medicines in brief. From these there is different way of collecting,preserving and preparing the medicines. The homoeopathic medicines are prepared in completely different way.
